Brain Drain in Lebanon - Free Online Panel by I Have Learned Academy in Collaboration with the German Foundation: KAS -Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Lebanon office Part of the Series: "Thoughts and Talks for a Better Lebanon"

The worsening economic crisis in Lebanon has fueled this latest brain drain of skilled youth migrating in search of opportunities elsewhere, which caused a skills mismatch that has been evident for years.

In this panel we will discuss the Brain Drain challenge in Lebanon from an Economic, Political, Social & Psychological point of view.

  • Danielle Hatem - Financial Consultant

Danielle Hatem is an Economist and founder of D Does Business; an influential blog with a main objective of spreading awareness about local and regional economic updates and analyses. Today, "D Does Business" has more than 46K followers. Prior to that, Danielle worked for 15 years in several local and international financial institutions. She holds a bachelor degree in Economics from AUB, a Master in Finance from Warwick, UK, and an Executive Master in Finance from HEC, Paris.

  • Jad Ghosn - Political Activist

Jad Ghosn is a Lebanese journalist, news reporter, and documentary producer, a graduate of Notre Dame University with a bachelor degree in political and administrative sciences, before enrolling for graduate studies in political studies at the American University of Beirut. The year 2009 was Ghosn's first contact in journalism, as he worked for less than a year at Sawt al-Mada radio station as a news presenter and radio reporter. In 2012, he started working as a news reporter for OTV television before moving in the beginning of 2013 to ALJADEED tv, where he remained until August of 2020.Ghosn's journalistic work focuses on political, economic and social issues, using investigative tools and a critical analysis of the news. He also worked in preparing a number of television programs other than those he presented or participated in presenting, in addition to multiple media and online appearances as a guest or anchor to express my views on political and economic news. After his resignation from Al-Jadeed TV, Ghosn's work is focused on independent journalism through alternative media platforms hosting his own Podcast, in addition to documentary production and media-related training.

  • Mireille Korab Abi Nasr - Communication & Business Expert

Communication and Real estate professional with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Beirut - AUB. Mireille is the Corporate Communication Officer of I&C Bank as well as being a Real Estate professional heading Business Development at FFA Real Estate arm of the bank with a history of working in the real estate industry in Lebanon and the MENA region.
She believes in the need to cope with the omnipresent challenging markets of Lebanon and the region, by nurturing innovation, integrity, transparency, equality and social responsibility that will lead both Banking and Real Estate practices to the next level.
Mireille sits on the Board of Directors of REDAL (Real Estate Developers Association- Lebanon) serving as Vice President. She is a founding member and sits on the Advisory Board of "Beirut Institute" striving to achieve sustainable impact on local and global Policy. She is a founding member and Treasurer of the Board of the Women Leaders Association-Lebanon (WLA) focused on integrating women into decision making, as a founding member of Lebanese Private Sector Network (LPSN) Mireille is advocating best practices and lobbying for relaunch of the Economy in Lebanon.

  • Michael Khoury - Psychologist

Dr. Michael Khoury has his educational background in Biology, Medicine, Clinical Psychology, and Psychosocial Animation. He has worked as a lecturer and counselor for scholars at AUB (The American University of Beirut), a trainer in mental health with the Ministry of Public Health and various local, regional and international NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), is an advisor on several international NGOs, a trainer on communication skills, a mental health specialist in palliative care and dignity therapy, and a clinical psychologist in private practice since 2006.

Dr. Khoury has more than 16 years of clinical experience in providing therapy, counseling and support for individuals, couples, and families who have experienced anxiety, depression, conflict and loss; and is deeply aware of cultural similarities and differences, especially of prolonged conflict areas like Lebanon. Not only does

Dr. Khoury have a solid foundation and understanding in the biological and the medical aspects of mental health and physical health, and their intersection–psychosomatic health, he also has studied and trained in multiple schools of therapy which he utilizes in an integrative fashion.

Dr. Khoury has been providing support and psychotherapy for the LGBTQ community in Lebanon since 2006 and is a co-author of 2 mental health book chapters on cultural psychology and on social inclusion and exclusion.

Randa has an extensive track record in HR Management and Recruitment across multinationals in various industries. Her practical expertise is supported by her degrees in HR Management, Organizational Psychology & Business Advertising and Marketing. Her specialization is Happiness at Work, Stress and Wellness.
In addition to being a corporate trainer, Randa has been an instructor at USJ for over 10 years in HR Management & Organizational Psychology Courses for Master students & recently started teaching also at ALBA.
Randa is an international speaker, sharing her passion for HR, Happiness at Work & Soft Skills at conferences & trainings across Europe, The Gulf and the Middle East.
