Speaker Bio

Dr Georges Karam

  • M.D - Psychiatry - Specialized in Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Executive Director of IDRAAC
  • Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology of St. George Hospital University Medical Center

Dr. Georges Karam is a prominent figure in mental health advocacy in Lebanon, serving as the Executive Director of the Institute for Development, Research, Advocacy, and Applied Care (IDRAAC). His work focuses on addressing mental health issues amidst Lebanon's socio-economic crises, including the ongoing challenges from economic instability and regional conflicts.

In recent news, Dr. Karam launched a donation campaign aimed at increasing funding for mental health services, highlighting the critical need for support as demand for these services continues to rise due to heightened stress and trauma among the population. This initiative underscores his commitment to improving mental health care access in Lebanon, especially in light of the aftermath of significant events like the Beirut explosion.

Dr. Karam's efforts also include leading community programs that provide mental health education and treatment, particularly focused on trauma recovery. His leadership at IDRAAC positions him as a key advocate for mental health reform in a region grappling with the lasting effects of war and economic hardship.
